I haven't seen the movie yet so I'm sure I'm not getting every nuance but it's still a pretty funny bit. The expressions you picked really tell the joke(s).

Ahaha, this is great! I was wondering what Rorschach's reaction to receiving a birthday cake would be.

I don't know if he'd really recognize his official birthdate of March 21, 1940 in 1976, though, given that Walter Kovacs technically "died" in 1975...

hmmm good point. can't get nothing by you, can i? i set this after the Roche incident because he didn't talk like this before, and may have actually been a tiny bit more... well... human (=less amusing awkwardness). and anyway, humming birthday songs to himself is prolly smtng he'd never do, no matter what year. ;)

but you make an interesting point to think about. :) thanks for that!

Aside the humming, I can totally see this happening. Rory, no matter how crazy, is still a human... a human, who never got a nice thing from anybody, ever. I think, somewhere deep inside, he'd feel touched. ^^ (And maybe he thinks of Rorschach's 'birth' as an important date? Like, when he did the mask.)

And the squealing fangirl I am, I can even imagine him humming. Suppose he thinks nobody's there to hear him.
